Language Issues
Overview
What are some of the big problems and ideas that shape the way we engage with the world? In this course, we will learn about big problems related to language, society, and the self, as we delve into what it means to learn in ASU's English Department disciplines (Creative Writing, English Education, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Literature, and Writing, Rhetorics and Literacies).
What you’ll learn
- Recognize the varieties of work students can do within the different concentrations in ASU's English Department (Creative Writing, English Education, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Literature, and Writing, Rhetorics and Literacies)
- Explain the role of language and other media in shaping perceptions of cultures, individuals, and society
- Differentiate among the possible approaches, methods, and text/media types across the concentrations in English in order to address big problems related to language and culture
- Apply several of these approaches, methods, and text/media types to thematic questions and ideas
